At Risen Savior Catholic Preschool, we cultivate independent learners and responsible citizens through academics, creativity, and play. We strive to teach our students about the importance of serving others like Jesus did. To emphasize this lesson, the students learned about community helpers in the month of April. We discussed what it means to serve the community and appreciate all of the people who work to keep us safe, healthy, well-fed, and educated. We had special visitors come to our school and share what they do and their importance in our community. A banker, a physician’s assistant, a chicken farmer, the New Mexico Forest Firefighters, and two Bernalillo Police Officers came to Risen Savior to give a glimpse into their lives and their passion for helping others. The students were able to ask questions, see what tools each community helper uses, and engage in hands-on activities. The best part of all was when the children were able to shoot the fire hose, turn on the police car sirens, meet Henny the chicken, and Smokey the Bear. The students’ faces lit up with curiosity and wonder when meeting all our guest speakers.
Risen Savior Catholic Preschool aims to provide our students with real-world connections to enhance critical thinking and make learning meaningful. In educating our students about community helpers, we were able to promote safety, inspire interest in possible future careers, and encourage service in the world around us. To serve others is to serve Jesus, and we are never too small to learn this valuable lesson. Thank you to all who serve our community, Risen Savior Catholic Preschool appreciates you!
