St. Pius Jazz Band Success at the Eastern NM University Jazz Festival

Saturday April 7th,  the St. Pius High School Jazz Band went to Portales to compete in the Eastern NM University (ENMU) Jazz Festival!  This provided a great learning experience for the students. It included onstage clinics, performances by the judges and guest artists, clinic on big band performance with the Music Dept. Chair, campus tour, master classes based on instruments with the ENMU faculty and a great concert that night featuring the guest artists and the ENMU Jazz Band.

In addition, Carson Stock - Lead Alto and Benicio Gutierrez - Lead Trumpet both received outstanding soloist awards. They were the only two awarded. Congratulations Sartans!

Our jazz band took second place, a Texas School Caprock HS took first place and deservedly so!  

It was a GREAT day for us.
